Pregnancy & Postpartum Therapy In NYC

Ofrecemos terapia durante el embarazo y el posparto en inglés y español.

At Silver Therapy Group, we provide support throughout the full journey to parenthood: from family planning to pregnancy, postpartum, and the adjustment to being a parent. This season of life is exciting and awe-inspiring, but can also feel incredibly overwhelming and intense.

Our team offers pregnancy and postpartum therapy in New York City, supporting both birthing parents and partners with care, clarity, and compassion. We also offer therapy for PMADs (perinatal mood and anxiety disorders). Whether you’re preparing for a baby, navigating an unexpected experience, or struggling after birth, you deserve space to talk honestly about how you’re doing.

We offer in-person appointments on the Upper West Side and remote sessions for anyone located in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut. Our team of doctoral-level psychologists has advanced training in reproductive mental health and would be honored to support you.

Support Throughout Your Journey to Parenthood

The path to parenthood is rarely as tidy as we imagined. Our team at Silver Therapy Group supports individuals and partners before, during, and after pregnancy. Whether it’s your first child or your third, we will help you get the support that fits your needs. We also honor the needs of partners and non-birthing parents, who often undergo quiet but profound changes during this time. Everyone deserves care, not just the person who gave birth. Both individual and couples therapy are available in English and Spanish.

Many New Yorkers seek support from our therapists for:

  • Preparing for parenthood: Family planning, uncertainty about becoming a parent, or mixed feelings about how life may change.

  • Fertility challenges and loss: The emotional demands of trying to conceive, fertility treatment, or pregnancy loss.

  • Pregnancy-related concerns: A high-risk pregnancy, worries about your health or your baby, your body, or fear of childbirth.

  • Emotional changes: Sadness, irritability, guilt, shame, loneliness, resentment, or feeling unlike yourself.

  • Anxiety and intrusive thoughts: Persistent worry, panic, repeated checking, difficulty relaxing, or unwanted thoughts and images that feel frightening.

  • Birth-related distress: Processing a difficult birth, an unexpected medical experience, or disappointment about how delivery unfolded.

  • Postpartum demands: Sleep deprivation, feeding challenges, emotional overwhelm, planning to return to work, and adjusting to new responsibilities.

  • Connection and identity: Difficulty feeling connected to your baby, partner, or yourself; missing your previous routines; or struggling with changing roles and identity shifts.

  • Relationship strain: Communication difficulties, household responsibilities, the mental load, intimacy changes, or boundaries with extended family.

  • Limited support and practical pressures: For some New Yorkers, childcare costs, demanding work schedules, limited space, or having loved ones far away are a major source of stress.

  • Persistent or worsening symptoms: Hopelessness, loss of interest in things you usually enjoy, or distress that interferes with everyday life.

Understanding PMADs and How Our Therapists Can Help

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, often called PMADs, are mental health conditions that can arise during pregnancy, right after birth, or up to 2 years postpartum. These may include depression, anxiety, and perinatal OCD. Birth-related trauma and other emotional concerns may also need attention during this time.

Some worry, emotional shifts, and difficulties with adjustment are common during pregnancy and early parenthood. However, Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) involve symptoms that are persistent, intense, or interfere with daily life. These difficulties are more common than many people realize. Yet stigma, shame, and cultural expectations can make it hard to speak openly about them.

Silver Therapy Group offers a safe space and compassionate support. Pregnancy and postpartum therapy can help you respond to distressing thoughts, manage emotional overwhelm, strengthen coping skills, and communicate your needs.

Our Approach to Pregnancy & Postpartum Therapy

Silver Therapy Group is a dedicated team of New York-based clinical psychologists. We use active, evidence-based approaches tailored to your concerns, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). When appropriate, treatment may also involve coordination with your medical provider or a reproductive mental health prescriber.

Our team has experience supporting people through pregnancy and postpartum anxiety and depression, infertility, pregnancy loss, birth-related trauma, and the adjustment to parenthood. Our clinicians’ backgrounds include advanced training in women’s and reproductive mental health and extensive experience in maternal mental health settings.

Our approach is warm, focused, interactive, and collaborative. Therapy sessions are active and help you explore what matters most to you. We respect and welcome those of different cultures, identities, and religions. Therapy services are available in both English and Spanish.
